Mothers in minis? Not in my school, says head

A principal at a school in Vihiga County has banned parents in miniskirts and short dresses from visiting.

Vihiga High School Principal Ezekiel Ayiego on Sunday said the decision was reached after noting that the dressing was an embarrassment to boys at the institution.

“Parents should not embarrass their sons when they visit this school. There is no ‘my dress, my choice’ here,” he said.

Mr Ayiego warned that the school administration would send away any parent who defies the directive.

“We have done it before and nothing will stop us from doing it again. As a parent, you must remain simple, humble and smartly dressed,” he said.

REGULAR VISITS

The principal was addressing parents of Form One students who had visited the school for orientation.

The event was also attended by Vihiga MP Yussuf Chanzu, who encouraged parents to regularly visit the school to check on the progress of their sons.

Mr Ayiego, who is also the chairman of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association, Vihiga District, said the school was founded on Christian values that should be observed by teachers, students and their parents.

The institution is sponsored by the Friends Church.

After the meeting, Mr Ayiego told the Nation that the Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) had agreed to release the school’s 2014 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination results it was withholding.

RELEASE RESULTS

“It has been two weeks of stress for teachers, parents and candidates. Knec has agreed to release the results for 215 candidates it has been withholding for alleged cheating,” said Mr Ayiego.

He added: “I will fly to Nairobi on Monday (today) to collect the results. No meaningful work has been going on at the school for the last two weeks.”

The principal said Knec investigators visited the school last week and interviewed candidates, parents, teachers and other workers. He said the investigators discovered that there was no cheating at the institution.
