Emotions ran high on Sunday at the burial of a victim of the Mpeketoni terror attack at Kiamanyeki village in Kirinyaga County.

Villagers and relatives broke down as speakers narrated how stonemason John Karimi, 40, was murdered.

Mourners heard that Mr Karimi was dragged out of his house, tied up with ropes, set ablaze and then shot in the mouth by the attackers.

A friend, Mr Francis Mithamo, who escaped death by a whisker, told mourners that the killers went house to house shooting indiscriminately and burning the victims.

“The killings were the worst ever in the area in the history of Kenya,” he said.

Mr Karimi is survived by a wife, Jane Njoki, and two children.
