The national government should speed up in demarcating the Meru-Tharaka Nithi counties border to quell conflict, Meru Governor has said.

Governor Peter Munya has noted that it is important to draw the border to enhance peaceful coexistence.

However, he added that the Provincial and District Act of 1992 illustrates clearly where each county is located and there will be no new border relocation.

Mr Munya, who is also the council of governors chairman, said they had earlier reached an agreement through a consensus meeting with land officials.

But later, the officials reneged on the agreement by doubling the funds required for the exercise to Sh70 million which forced the county boss to drop the bid.

“As a county we have strategic plans that will ensure the borders are clearly marked and demarcated. This will ensure that people live in peace and can freely do their businesses and socialize.

“However, the Tharaka Nithi and Meru border does not relocate and no one relocates with the border. Instead of politicians telling residents the truth, they are inciting and misleading you”, he said.

Mr Munya was speaking at Kalantina dispensary in Tigania East during a cancer screening exercise at the weekend.
