Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua on Monday reshuffled his Cabinet to strip Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala of his duties as a county executive.

In a statement to newsrooms, Dr Mutua said his decision was informed by Mr Kiala's inability to perform in his portfolio.

“For the last one year or so, I had wished that the Deputy Governor of Machakos contributes to the development programs of Machakos in a hands-on way. I had therefore, assigned him the portfolio of Public Service, Labour and ICT to manage as a member of my Cabinet,” read the statement.

The docket that was held by the deputy governor was given to Larry Wambua.

Dr Mutua also announced the appointment of Boniface Mutinda Kabaka as his legal and strategy adviser.

Mr Kabaka vied in the last general election for the Machakos County Senate seat, but he was trounced by Johnstone Muthama, the current senator.

The Constitution states that the deputy governor shall assist the governor in the latter's roles and may be assigned additional duties as the members of the county executive committee.
