Some Nandi County MCAs who have stood by Deputy President William Ruto in opposing referendum calls were on Tuesday ejected from House committees.

The MCAs have been replaced by close associates of Governor Cleophas Lagat who initially supported the plebiscite but changed after pressure from the United Republican Party.

The committee polls were presided over by County Clerk Barnabas Kosgey.

Tinderet MCA Kipkirui Chepkwony lost his position in the Health committee to Mr Nobert Maiyo while the Justice and Legal committee chairman Baruch Suge was replaced by Mr Too Keino.

Mr Julius Menjo and Rev Thomas Martim lost the Education and Labour positions respectively.

UDF’s Kabwareng MCA Jackson Swadi retained chairmanship of the Public Investment and Accounts committee.

Among those retained were Finance committee chairman John Keter, Roads and Infrastructure head Julius Ruto Kiptindinyo, Mr Simon Bor in the Youth and Gender committee and Mr Amos Korir in the Lands and Environment committee.

Mr Isaac Choge will head the Devolution committee while Mr Francis Kemei heads the Registration committee.

“The Assembly is expected to address issues raised by voters and ensure the government delivers quality service to the public,” said Mr Kosgey.

The ousted chairmen were, however, accommodated in other less powerful committees.

Mr Chepkwony will head the Media committee while Mr Menjo will head the Library committee. Rev Martim is a member of the Speaker’s committee.
