A Narok chief has been charged with allowing his two daughters to be circumcised.

Mr Lekishon Moriaso, the administrator of Maji Moto location in Narok South district, appeared before Narok Resident Magistrate Zainab Abdul and denied the three counts.

The chief, who was represented by lawyer Martin ole Kamwaro was released on a bond of Sh100, 000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh50,000 until May 2 when the case will be heard under a certificate of urgency.

This will enable the two girls to testify and return to school when it opens.

The 50-year-old Moriaso was accused of aiding female genital mutilation of his two daughters aged 16 and 15, both pupils at Enkare Narirowua primary school.

He is accused of committing the offence on April 15.

He was also charged with knowingly allowing female genital mutilation in his homestead as the head of the home and failing to report it contrary to the Anti-FGM Act 2011.

“The two girls were rushed to hospital after bleeding excessively during circumcision,” said State counsel Evans Gitonga.

The girls were found by Narok South sub-county Commissioner Joseph Nyakundi following a tip off from the public and the chief was caught red handed in a “Ntalengo” (a Maasai circumcision ceremony) in his home.

Mr Gitonga pleaded with the court to expedite the case and applied for a closer date for hearing where the two girls will testify before they go back to school for the second term, which starts in the month of May.
