Ndhiwa MP Aghostinho Neto has denied involvement in a fracas at a burial that left a student dead and another one seriously injured.

“It is true I was at the burial and witnessed the fracas but never played any role,” Mr Neto said Sunday.

Speaking to the Nation when reached for comment, the MP said he was ready to record a statement detailing what he witnessed at the burial.

The Technical University student had gone to the burial of a colleague’s mother at Kaguria in South Kabuoch, Homa Bay County.

He died on Saturday night at the Kisii Level 5 Hospital as doctors tried to save his life.

Homa Bay County Police Commander John Omusanga Sunday said the police would investigate the MP on the matter.

Mr Omusanga said witnesses, a majority of them from nearby Rongo, have recorded statements with the police.

He added that the killer machete had already been recovered together with the deceased’s blood soaked shirt.

“This is a straight forward matter since the accused who stabbed the deceased is a notorious man and was positively identified by members of the public, “he said.

Another victim of the attack who was also rushed to the same hospital was said to be in stable condition.

However, there were plans to transfer him to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi.
