What you need to know:

  • According to the branch chairman Mr Linus Kathera, the council of elders has always spearheaded development of the region.

  • Mr Kathera further argued that as leaders they should be very wise in terms of making decisions since Igembe North was much more behind in terms of development as compared to other Meru sub-counties.

  • He also called for unity among all the Meru County leaders for the purpose of benefiting the residents.

The Njuri Ncheke council of elders from Igembe North Sub-County has pledged their support for the area member of parliament in his development agenda.

According to the branch chairman Mr Linus Kathera, the council of elders has always spearheaded development of the region.

He was speaking this in Kiani area of Igembe North Sub-County where the MP Mr Joseph M’Eruaki was commissioning the first borehole in the area since creation of the sub-county.

Mr Kathera said that after close scrutiny of Mr Joseph M’Eruaki’s plans for developing the area, they had decided to give him all the support that he requires.

He further said that the council of elders was also pleased by the MP’s decision to work closely with the Meru County governor Peter Munya for the purpose of developing their region adding that it was the only way that they would benefit from the county government.

“We have looked into the MP’s agenda for our constituency and as Njuri Ncheke council of elders; we are fully behind him so that we can move a step further in terms of development.

We further commend him for deciding to work closely with our governor as this is the only way we could benefit from the county resources,” he said.

IGEMBE NORTH BEHIND

Mr Kathera further argued that as leaders they should be very wise in terms of making decisions since Igembe North had been left behind in terms of development as compared to other Meru sub-counties.

“We are far behind all the other sub-counties in our county in terms of development and therefore it would be very foolish of us to fight with the governor instead of being close to him in order to benefit from the county resources,” he said.

He also called for unity among all the Meru County leaders for the purpose of benefiting the residents.

He said that all the members of Njuri Ncheke were focusing on development and those who were not would soon be ejected from the council.

The borehole will benefit the residents of that village who have been walking for hundreds of kilometers in search of water.

Since the area has no electricity connection, solar energy has been used to pump water out of the 600-foot-borehole.

The MP said that this was a new technology which was not as expensive as electricity.

He also said that it was a shame for Kenyans to depend on relief food when there were such technologies which could be used to ensure that people had enough water to use on their farms and get enough food for use and even surplus for sale.
