The government has suspended all rallies and demonstrations in Narok warning that the escalating tension in the County could result into violent confrontations.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Maj-Gen (rtd) Joseph Nkaissery said the tension was attributed to allegations of misappropriation of funds collected from Maasai Mara Game Reserve by the county government.

The CS also advised leaders from the area to resolve their issues through dialogue, instead of employing tactics that could escalate into violence.

“The Government has been following closely developments in Narok County and is deeply concerned over escalating levels of tension. In the light of heightened tension in the County, rallies and demonstrations have been suspended with immediate effect,” the CS said.

Last week, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission chairperson Mumo Matemu and Auditor-General Edward Ouko met with administrators and political leaders from the County.

Mr Matemu indicated that they had received a number of complaints concerning revenue collection and were investigating.

CS Nkaissery urged all leaders in the County to exercise patience awaiting the completion of investigations of alleged corruption.

“When the allegations of corruption in Narok County emerged, officers from the office of the Auditor-General and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) were swiftly dispatched to the county to investigate,” he said.
