Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has criticised leaders who are unwilling to work with others to develop the region.

He said that continuous bickering by some MPs, senators and MCAs, against either their governors or the national government was negatively impacting development.

The CS at the same time asked those eyeing various political seats in 2017 to hold their horses until election period, saying their current style of politics was retrogressive and causing disunity.

Mr Matiang’i, who is also the acting Lands minister, singled out Nyamira County, saying many of its leaders were unwilling to work with Governor John Nyagarama.

He said: “There is no way this county can more forward unless its leaders respect one another and work together. It is now time for our leaders to talk with each other and chart a way forward on how to develop the county together.”

Mr Matiang’i said although he was a national public servant, he had a constitutional right to pinpoint the wrongs committed by area leaders because Nyamira was his rural home.

“I want to ask Nyamira leaders, especially MPs, to support the governor and move the county forward. He was elected by the majority and should be supported to complete his term,” he added.

SECRETLY HOLDING MEETINGS

The CS was speaking at Nyamira Central SDA Church where he helped to raise Sh2.5 million for the completion of the church. He gave Sh530,000 which included Sh300,000 from President Kenyatta.

Mr Matiang’i was accompanied by Nyamira governor John Nyagarama, West Mugirango MP James Gesami, Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and County Commissioner Josephine Onunga, among others.

He claimed some of the elected area leaders were secretly holding meetings aimed at destabilising Mr Nyagarama’s leadership.

He asked Senator Ken Okongo, area MPs Timothy Bosire (Kitutu Masaba), Charles Geni (North Mugirango), Ben Momanyi (Borabu) and James Gesami (West Mugirango) to present their development agenda to the governor instead of engaging him in continuous criticisms that were detrimental of wellbeing of the county.

“I have talked with the governor and he is willing to work with our President. He has shown respect to the President,” Mr Matiang’i said.
