The Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has summoned Siaya County Governor aspirant on NAP-K ticket William Oduol for using former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s picture on his campaign posters.

He was summoned following a complaint by ODM party to the IEBC county coordinator Mrs Jacqueline Osiemo.

The party stated that Mr Oduol is flouting the election rules and regulations by using Mr Odinga’s pictures.

The summon stated that Mr Oduol was not a member of any party affiliated to Cord and it was unfair for him to use Mr Odinga’s pictures in his posters as it would deceive voters.

While responding to the claims presented against him to the IEBC Mr Oduol stated that it was not a deliberate move to use the posters containing Mr Odinga’s photo.

“I never used the posters containing Odinga intentionally, as I was using the previous elections posters ,” he stated, “I never knew it was an election offence but I promise to bring all these posters and produce new ones,” Mr Oduol admitted.

Meanwhile, the IEBC has said it is prepared for the October 17 by-election with the commencement of the training of the Presiding officers, Deputy Presiding Officers and the Poling Clerks.

Speaking in Siaya town, the Alego Usonga IEBC Returning Officer Mr Benson Esuza said preparations on the coming by-election are over as they expect the ballot papers to arrive from Nairobi over the weekend.

“This election will be a fair one, I assure the Siaya voters and urge them to come out in large numbers and vote,” he stated.
