A seven-year-old boy died while four other passengers were injured when a saloon car crashed into them near a police roadblock at Sewerage, in Embu town on Saturday night.

The boy, Lewis Kimanzi, succumbed to severe head and chest injuries he incurred when the vehicle ran over the spikes at the roadblock and veered off the road, running over him.

Embu Deputy Police boss Ziro Arome said the vehicle’s breaks failed as the driver drove downhill during the 11.30pm incident.

The five were among passengers who were traveling in a Matatu heading towards Nairobi when it stopped so they could relieve themselves.

“The vehicle was headed to Nairobi from Embu and on reaching the accident scene, the driver lost control of it due to brake failure,” said Mr Arome.

The boy together with the other four, were rushed to the Embu Level Five hospital where the boy died while undergoing treatment.

The other victims who suffered fractures and slight knocks were admitted at the hospital while the body of the boy was taken to the hospital mortuary wing.

Mr Arome said the vehicle was towed to the Embu police station and a probe into the accident commenced.
