Police trail wanted criminal from Eldoret, arrest him in Kisii

Police in Kisii County on Thursday arrested one of the most sought after criminals from the region.

Mr Nelson Orina Riro was arrested in Rongo town by law enforcement officers inside a bus.

Kisii County Police Commander Simon Kiragu confirmed the arrest but did not divulge more details.

“The suspect will be arraigned in court on Friday,” he said.

However, source at the police station told the Daily Nation that they had received a tip off from an informer in Eldoret that the suspect had boarded the bus and was on his way to Isebania.

The source who sought anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media said the four police officers were tasked to arrest the criminal.

“They wanted to intercept the bus at Oyugis but they were told it had already passed by the time they got there,” he said.

“They followed the bus and stopped it at Rongo town. They ordered everyone inside to produce their Identification Cards. It is here that we identified our suspect, who had produced a laminated photocopy of his ID card,” he said.

“The suspect did not resist arrest. He was later transferred to the Kisii Police Station,” the source said.

The operation to arrest the suspect was said to have been led by an Inspector Morimbocho.
The suspect has 13 pending cases in court, amongst them robbery with violence and murder.

He is believed to have masterminded a number of raids on M-Pesa shops in Marani area of Kisii County.

He escaped from the Kisii Law Court cells on July 30, 2014 after breaking a window.

Police say their manhunt for the suspect had taken them to various parts of the country including Narok, Kitengela, Eldoret, Sirare, Isibania and Marani.
