The Inspector-General of Police has ordered fresh investigations into a case in which four detectives are accused of stealing cash from a trader.

When the case was mentioned on Thursday, the detectives informed Lady Justice Roselyn Wendoh that their pending prosecution and arrest had been deferred after Mr David Kimaiyo ordered a repeat of the investigations.

The four detectives attached to Nakuru’s Flying Squad Unit had been granted an anticipatory bail of Sh300,000 each last week.

The IG’s orders came after the detectives moved to court to protest their interdiction and plans to charge them with capital robbery.

Mr Jeremiah Kazungu, Mr Nicholas Kirongo, Mr James Rotich and Mr Yagan Kipsang sought court protection after Ms Christine Kajuju accused them of stealing Sh400,000 hidden inside her car after they arrested and locked her up at Nakuru Police Station.

The detectives said the arrest would hurt them as it was meant to stop them from following the inquiry. Their lawyer, Mr Steve Kabita, told the court that the State wants to charge them with robbery with violence.
