What you need to know:

  • Former deputy OCPD Kilimani Julius Lemako moves to the OCPD’s office in Kisumu, replacing Mr Musa Kongoli. Mr Kongoli has been transferred to Vigilance House’s operations unit in Nairobi.
  • Mr Nelson Mugweru from Kiganjo Training College and Mr Moses Dindi take over as county commander of regular police and county DCI commander, respectively.

Three police chiefs in Kisumu have been redeployed amidst tension between regular and administration officers.

The incoming officers already have their in-trays full following claims of high police involvement in crime, graft and pending murder cases. A case at hand is the recent shooting of an AP officer by regular police.

The police chiefs will also have to deal with complaints that some law enforcers have been in the region for a very long time and are therefore susceptible to abetting crime.

Mr Nelson Mugweru from Kiganjo Training College and Mr Moses Dindi take over as county commander of regular police and county DCI commander, respectively.

Mr Mugweru replaces Mr David Ng’etich who has been moved to operations at the Kenya Airports Police Unit while Mr Dindi is the new head of criminal investigations replacing Mr David Cheruiyot.

MUSA KONGOLI

Former deputy OCPD Kilimani Julius Lemako moves to the OCPD’s office in Kisumu, replacing Mr Musa Kongoli. Mr Kongoli has been transferred to Vigilance House’s operations unit in Nairobi.

The two police commanders took office Monday, while the new OCPD is expected in the county soon.

The reshuffle comes as APs trade accusations with their regular counterparts following their colleague’s killing. The Administration Police officer was allegedly shot dead during a robbery.

AP county commander Gradius Atinda said that the officers were only questioning the procedure used when the orders to shoot their colleague were raised.

However, Nyanza regional police coordinator Charles Narangwi had told the Nation that the slain officer had in February been linked to another robbery. Investigations are ongoing.
