Police impound vehicle, arrest driver transporting weapons to political rally

What you need to know:

  • The arrest comes only a day after County Commissioner Kassim Farah directed county police commander John Omusanga and his sub-county commanders to deal firmly with politicians who he said were a source of insecurity in the county.
  • Mr Farah, while distributing motorcycles to chiefs, said that as the chairman of the county security team he had lost patience with elected leaders who hold meetings that end up in violence.

Police in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, on Friday evening impounded a vehicle loaded with crude weapons at Otange in Kanyidoto Ward.

The weapons included pangas, axes and several jembe rods.

Ndhiwa police boss Nixon Makokha said some of the pangas had blood stains, which he said were an indication that they might have been used to commit an offense.

Mr Makokha said the vehicle was heading to a political rally and civic education exercise on voter registration.

Also arrested was the driver of the Toyota Probox car (KBQ 359S). He was locked up at the Ndhiwa police station.
