A police officer who was on Sunday allegedly caught in bed with a schoolgirl in a lodging in Mpeketoni Town has been arraigned in court.
Police Constable Alfred Ogora, 30, was on Monday brought to the Lamu Law courts and charged with defilement and an alternative charge of an indecent act with a minor.
The court heard that on Sunday March 13, 2016 at around 1pm at a lodge in Mpeketoni, Mr Ogora was found by members of the public engaging in an indecent sexual act with a 16-year-old schoolgirl who also happened to be a victim of a previous rape case in which Mr Ogora was the investigating officer.
He denied the charges and was released on a Sh100,000 cash bail plus surety of a similar amount.
Hearing of the case was set for April 14, 2016.
At the same time, the Nation established that by Tuesday, the police constable had already been interdicted.
A senior police officer who requested anonymity told the Nation by phone that the constable would only be liable to receive half of his salary until the case is heard and determined.
“He has already been interdicted. He will only receive half of his salary until his case is determined,” said the officer.
The girl is a Class Seven pupil at Ngoi Primary School in Mpeketoni.
Lamu County Commander Aphiod Nyagah and Lamu County Criminal Investigations Officer Prosper Bosire had earlier denied having any knowledge of the incident.
