Policeman held over son’s death

Police are holding an Administration Police officer said to have killed his five-year-old son.
The constable attached to Simba Administration Police Camp, allegedly hanged his son in a bush near his Kathekani Village home in Mtito Andei house after an a heated argument with his wife on Sunday night.
Area chief Pascal Kyule on Monday said the policeman arrived at his house at 9pm accompanied by a witchdoctor from Kitui.
He picked a quarrel with his wife before he handcuffed and started beating her.
The constable turned his anger on the minor, whom he awoke. He later took the child, a rope and a panga to a bush where he allegedly hanged him.
BODY THROWN IN PIT
The chief said the suspect dragged the boy’s body from the bush and threw it in a shallow pit where it was retrieved by villagers yesterday morning.
The wife, who had meanwhile set herself free and escaped, said her husband had accused her of cheating on him. “My husband has been threatening to kill me and my son for a long time. He has been boasting that he is a policeman and, therefore, above the law,” she told the Nation yesterday.
She accused him of sacrificing their son on instructions of the witchdoctor, who disappeared immediately after the incident.
The constable turned himself in at Mtito Andei Police Station as the villagers searched for him.
GANGSTERS IN TURKANA
Meanwhile, two people were killed in separate incidents in Turkana County at the weekend.
In the first attack, gangsters raided a shop in Lokori and shot dead a woman before escaping with money and goods.
Turkana East police boss Mathew Mang’ira yesterday linked the attack to business rivalry.
In the second incident, a man hacked his wife to death in a domestic wrangle at Lokori.
“The woman died after she was slashed several times by the husband after what is suspected to be prolonged domestic differences,” said Mang’ira.
The suspect later surrendered himself to Lokori Police Station.
The officer appealed to couples to avoid violence and instead resolve their differences amicably.
