Proposed Coast union leaders to meet private investors

Leaders of the proposed economic union of Coastal counties will meet private sector investors on Saturday.

Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani Chairman Salim Mvurya said the meeting would bring on board all interest groups.

“It is important for us to move with the private sector because they are key in determining the success of the union,” said the Kwale governor on Tuesday.

“We have been receiving positive responses from the private sector and we are excited because their role in the creation of this regional economic bloc is key. Actually, they are the engine.”

Mr Mvurya said the bloc will keep engaging the key players as they work to ensure the region realises its dream of improving people’s lives.

A Bill that will enable the six counties in the region to localise the union is at the public participation level, according to Mr Mvurya.

Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Taita-Taveta, Tana River, Lamu members of county assembly are expected to approve the Bills by March 19. The union, otherwise known as the Commonwealth of Coastal Counties will be launched on March 28 in Mombasa.
