Armed raiders killed a herder and stole over 500 goats in Gobole, Loiyangalani Sub-County in Marsabit on Monday.

Acting County Police Commander John Kwasa said the four suspected bandits, believed to be from Samburu, struck at around 4pm before shooting their victim dead.

Eketatap Licha was killed on the spot while another herder, Mr Ngatioke Logianan, was able to scamper to safety with his children unscathed.

“The two herdsmen were looking after their goats when the attackers struck and began shooting indiscriminately,” Mr Kwasa said.

He said security personnel are combing the bushy area in searched for the suspects.

PURSUE THE BANDITS

“A contingent of officers from the Administration Police, Regular Police and Anti-Theft Stock Unit have been deployed to Loiyangalani to pursue the bandits,” he said.

No arrests have been made so far.

The killing came just two months after suspected cattle rustlers killed four other people at Larachi and Kiwanja in Loiyangalani in a suspected revenge attack.

At least 15 people have been killed in the area over the past few months.
