Cord leader Raila Odinga has backed the move by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko to further investigate the unfolding Eurobond saga.

Speaking at a funeral in Luanda, Vihiga County on Saturday, Mr Odinga, who insists that the country had lost a lot of money through the saga, said Mr Tobiko's office had a challenge of unearthing the persons behind the loss of the Eurobond billions.

On Friday, Mr Tobiko said the report on investigations into the Eurobond saga was incomplete.

“Tobiko had closed the matter. But yesterday (Friday) he said there is need for further investigations. This is welcome,” he said at a funeral in Vihiga.

The leader had attended the burial of Mrs Phoebe Andeso, the mother-in-law of Mr Odinga's daughter, Rosemary.

GAPS IN REPORT

The DPP said there were gaps in the report by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (Eacc) submitted to him and noted that they needed to be filled before he could decide on whether to finally close the matter.

Mr Odinga said the Eurobond issue had tainted the Jubilee government adding that any tactics to hold back his fight against corruption will be resisted.

“I insist Eurobond money was stolen by interested persons in government. They tried to intimidate me that I should record a statement but I told them to dare me,” said Mr Odinga.

The ODM leader was accompanied by his wife, Ida, daughter Rosemary, brother Oburu Oginga (nominated MP), Vihiga Senator George Khaniri, Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga, Wilbur Otichillo (Emuhaya MP) and Chris Omulele (MP Luanda).

Former National Assembly speaker Kenneth Marende also attended the burial.

INCREASED CORRUPTION

Mr Otichillo encouraged the residents to register as voters from February 15 and used the occasion to declare he would vie for Vihiga County governor's seat.

Mr Odinga told mourners to register as voters in large numbers as their votes would be used to redeem the country from corruption in government during the 2017 polls.

Mr Khaniri also accused the Jubilee administration of increased corruption and failure to deliver on its manifesto.

He said there was need for the Opposition to unite to form a formidable force to rid the country of what he termed as backtracking development in the country.
