Strong winds accompanied by heavy rains have destroyed five classrooms in Baringo, forcing pupils in one school to share a room.

When the Nation toured Kokorwonin Primary School on Wednesday, Standards one to five pupils were in one classroom with teachers taking turns to teach them.

Headteacher Willy Chepchieng called on the county and national governments and other well-wishers to assist rebuild the school.

NO CONCENTRATION

“The pupils don’t concentrate as they are distracted by their colleagues learning a different lesson in the same classroom. The strong winds were accompanied by heavy rains. We are lucky there are no fatalities as the pupils had gone home,” said Mr Chepchieng.

The most affected are Standard Seven pupils who are forced to study in a classroom without a roof and have to be relocated to Standard Eight when it rains.

Mr Chepchieng said the school was also grappling with an acute shortage of teachers. It has five teachers for eight classes.
