Authorities are overseeing installation of new Wi-Fi equipment after a similar project valued at Sh200 million flopped a few months ago.
Governor Kinuthia Mbugua on Thursday said equipment had been installed in 38 strategic locations in the town centre.
“I urge residents to be patient as reinstallation is under way. The project will be operational in due time,” he said.
With the launch in March, Nakuru joined the ranks of Kigali in Rwanda and Tshwana in South Africa as the three cities on the continent with free Wi-Fi.
However, the project faced network coverage hitches leading to erratic connection and its eventual death.
But with the relaunch, Governor Mbugua said the entire town and its environs would be covered for 24 hours, enabling the launch of online-based business by academic institutions, agro-based shops as well as the much-awaited online payments.
The governor said with all these, Nakuru would be transformed into a regional business hub.
Mr Mbugua said the initiative would also enable rapid access to information which is vital for development.
Nakuru County boasts of several universities and colleges that pride themselves as hubs for ICT innovations.
