A delegation of more than 3,000 people is expected to present a petition to President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, urging him to dissolve the county government.

The move, which will be the first since the introduction of the devolved system of governance after the last General Election, has been prompted by persistent wrangles between the Executive and the county assembly.

Should the President accept the wishes of the residents, Governor Kivutha Kibwana and members of the county assembly will be sent home to pave the way for fresh elections in 90 days.

HIRE TWO BUSES

The chairman of a committee collecting signatures, Mr Francis Mailu, said every ward is expected to hire two buses that will leave Wote as a convoy for State House.

“We are expecting a convoy of 70 buses. Some 100 people from every ward will accompany the committee members to State House to present our petition to the President,” said Mr Mailu.

He said the residents were tired of the county government as they had not yet seen the benefit of devolution since its introduction.

The residents raised funds towards transport to Nairobi in a bid to have the county government dissolved and have a new one that has the interest of the people, he added.

“In Kibwezi and Matiliku, the residents are raising funds to hire buses they will use tomorrow, (today),” he said.

The wrangles in the county have been pitting Prof Kibwana against the MCAs, who impeached him last month.

He, however, successfully obtained a court injunction that blocked the Senate from acting on the impeachment. The MCAs also impeached the County Executive Committee members.

In September, five people, including Prof Kibwana’s chief of staff and bodyguard, were injured in a shootout within the county assembly after the governor’s supporters stormed a meeting.
