  • Mosonik said the vetting by the construction authority was to ensure that contractors will be put in various categories depending on their performance and availability of necessary facilities.

Road contractors will soon be vetted by the National Construction Authority before handling of any project, Infrastructure Principal Secretary John Mosonik says.

He noted that in the past, many new contractors who had no experience had not performed to the ministry’s expectation due to lack of required expertise.

"It is a pity that most of the local contractors the Government is trying to promote have turned to be a big let down in many aspect as they did not measure to the performance required," he observed.

Mr Mosonik said the aim of the process is to ensure that contractors are placed according to their skills.

The PS added that all foreign contractors coming on board should partner with local contractors before being awarded tenders.

Speaking while inspecting ongoing road works in Murang’a County, he further said contractors who had not completed their projects within the agreed period will not be given a new one.

"I just want to send a warning to the rogue contractors that deregistration was not a threat but a reality," he said.
