Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has declared interest in becoming William Ruto’s running mate in the 2022 elections.

Ms Chege asked her Mt Kenya counterparts to support her political ambitions saying she had what it takes to run for the deputy president’s seat.

Despite there being many people already angling for the post, it would be her pride and joy to see Mr Ruto pick a woman, she said.

According to Ms Chege, by selecting a woman as his running mate, Mr Ruto will have made history and set a good example as the country has never had a woman deputy president.

“I know women’s leadership has never disappointed as naturally women are good leaders. It would be a privilege to have a woman serve Kenya in such a capacity,” she said.

But, she will support whomever Mr Ruto picks as his running mate, she said.

“If he chooses me, then I urge them to support me too,” she said.

POTENTIAL RUNNING MATES

Other potential running mates for Ruto in 2022 who are already being discussed include Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri, Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi, Tharaka-Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Kiambu Governor William Kabogo.

Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau have also been mentioned.

Ms Chege said it was time for central Kenya to return a favour by supporting William Ruto to become president in 2022.

“We cannot forget where we have come from. In 2013 Uhuru and Ruto agreed that Central Kenya would back Mr Ruto in 2022 after Uhuru had serves two terms.

“We shall return the same favour to our brother and I urge people not to be selfish as Ruto is a good guy,” she said.

She termed Mr Ruto as an able leader and deputy who has given President Uhuru Kenyatta respect and peace of mind thus enabling them to achieve a lot as a team.
