Deputy President William Ruto is expected to tour Meru County today in a series of events as Jubilee seeks to consolidate it support in the region.

Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi said Mr Ruto will be at Mulathankari which is Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi’s home area for a harambee.

The DP will later preside another funds drive in Tigania West.

The visits have however attracted the wrath of Meru Governor Peter Munya who has accused the DP of coming along with politicians who undermine him.

In his last visit in February, Mr Munya stormed out of the event at Nkubu after telling Mr Ruto to his face that ‘he will not be forced into joining Jubilee Party’.

Mr Munya has publicly confessed that he is not in good terms with the DP due to his political forays in the county.

Mr Ruto’s visits are seen as efforts to drum up support for Senator Kiraitu Murungi who has expressed interest in the Meru governorship.

Tigania West MP David Karithi who will host the DP for the education revolving fund harambee said he expects Meru leaders to put aside their political differences and support the initiative.

“We are targeting to raise Sh20 million for the kitty that will be managed by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB). I am expecting senator Murungi, governor Munya and other MPs to attend the function. We have to unite for development,” Mr Karithi said.
