Kapenguria MP Samuel Moroto has dismissed calls by Cord and the Council of Governors to devolve security.

He said county governments are not ready to handle security matters.

“The National Government should keep the docket because it is a sensitive one,” the lawmaker said.

“County governments have not shown sufficient maturity for security to be devolved,” he said.

Mr Moroto further said that health and education matters should also be left to the National Government.

“We have seen many problems in the health sector after devolution. Workers in a number of counties have been demonstrating over pay,” he said.

However, Mr Moroto urged the National Government to involve governors in security issues.

Speaking Monday at Chemwochoi Primary School in Kapenguria, he said devolving security will trigger politicking and security will deteriorate.
