The Senate has vowed to continue summoning governors over misuse of public funds.

Senate Majority Leader Professor Kithure Kindiki on Sunday said governors who have been summoned by the Senate must appear before the Senate Finance Committee.

Speaking at Muthua-ini AIPCA church in Tetu district, Nyeri County during a fundraising drive in aid of the church, Prof Kindiki said they shall not relent, be compromised or give up.

“We want to tell governors who are locked up in a hotel in Mombasa to wind up that meeting and go back to their county,” said Prof Kindiki.

Prof Kindiki said the Senate has been silent to give other institutions the space to fulfil their mandate without interference.

But after the Controller of Budget revealed that there was misuse of public funds by governors, they had to act.

“We have to say no to misuse of public funds by the county governors,” he said.

At the same time, Prof Kindiki hit out at former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for accusing President Kenyatta of taking the country back to dictatorship.

“As a leader you must learn to obey the law. Mr Odinga should accept that he was defeated and there is now a government in place,” he said.

He urged President Kenyatta not to respond to Mr Odinga’s claims. Dagoreti MP Dennis Waweru urged Mr Odinga to respect the President and allow him to work for the people.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’ua said Mr Odinga was bitter because Jubilee leaders ran for president and won despite attempts to stop them using the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kieni MP Kanini Kega said Mr Odinga should allow the Jubilee coalition government to work without any interference.
