Senator warns of mounting tensions over referendum

Trans Nzoia Senator Henry Ole Ndiema has warned that referendum campaigns were raising political temperatures in the cosmopolitan region.

The Ford Kenya lawmaker cautioned leaders from the area against campaigns laced with ethnic undertones. “We should not divide our people even as we hit the ground to support or oppose the referendum,” he said during a funds drive at AIC Sirwo church in Cherang’any.

IMPEACHMENT

The senator also challenged leaders in the county to consult and iron out differences instead of attacking each other in public.

The county’s political temperature has risen as the dominant parties in the region —Ford Kenya and New Ford Kenya are on opposite sides of the referendum push. There are also plans to impeach the assembly speaker.

Endebess MP Robert Pukose asked Jubilee Coalition MCAs in the region to keep the county government on its toes.
