Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has dismissed a move by County Assembly members to allocate themselves Sh975million.

“This is outrageous and prohibitive and if it is affected, I will step down for someone else to oversee its implementation,” he said.

The County Assembly members on Wednesday adopted a supplementary budget where personnel cost was allocated Sh163.9m, operations and maintenance Sh513.5m and development expenditure Sh289m.

The county is among 25 others advised by the Controller of Budget to revise their expenditure following a deficit of 1billion.

The Executive had earlier allocated the 46 members Sh500million.

PUBLIC REACT ANGRILY

Chairman of the Commission of Revenue Allocation Micah Cheserem also advised them to reduce their budget to Sh475million.

Business in the House was disrupted as the public who were seated in the gallery reacted angrily to the amendment.

Despite this, the Speaker ignored them and read the adoption of the supplementary budget.

The session was however adjourned for over four hours to allow security to surround the assembly and bar members from the House.

According to Majority Leader Francis Mutuku, the Assembly amended the budget as Makueni County has enough resources to raise the funds.
