Shisha smoking, alcohol banned in public places

The county government has banned smoking of shisha and consumption of alcohol in public places during the festive season up to January 7, Deputy Governor Hazel Katana has said.

Indulgence in public places such as parks, Mama Ngina Drive and beaches would not be allowed, she said.

Speaking during a press conference at the governor’s office, Ms Katana said the county government would enhance vigilance specifically on security and health during the festivities.

She said the ban is enforced to protect the dignity and values of families.

“We urge residents and visitors to cooperate and abide by the law. Let us respect guests and children,” she said.

Ms Katana said the county government has put measures in place to avert an outbreak of diseases. She said food vendors who sell food on the beaches must exercise cleanliness and healthy habits.

Ms Katana said the county government has stationed ambulances in strategic places to deal with health emergencies.

SANITATION

She said the county government would ensure that the environment is preserved and cleanliness is observed.

The county has hired 300 youths to clean up the county during the holidays. The county government and the County Commissioner Nelson Marwa have agreed to reinforce security.

“We will have a lot of activities especially in Jomvu, Likoni, Mama Ngina Drive and Kenyatta Beach. To maintain the beautification and cleanliness of our county, we will have extra youths cleaning up,” Ms Katana said.

She said traffic marshals would help in controlling vehicles and additional streetlights have been installed in beaches and Nyali Bridge to enhance safety and the security of commuters and families.

Ms Katana said the county government has installed litter bins on Mama Ngina Drive and in places expected to attract a large number of holidaymakers.

The deputy governor said the said the health sector is ready and well-equipped for any emergencies that might occur.

She added that they have partnered with AAR, St John’s Ambulance and Radar Security for additional Ambulances and fire engines.
