Waiguru should run for governorship, says State House official

A senior State House official has urged former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru to vie for the gubernatorial seat in Kirinyaga County.
Speaking on Saturday during a prize-giving ceremony at Kiamugumo Girls Secondary School - Gichugu constituency - Mr Patrick Ngatia told the residents that Ms Waiguru should run for the seat and told her to declare her political stand.
"Ms Waiguru deserves the title of her excellency at the county level and she should tell us her political stand," said Mr Ngatia.
He told parents, teachers and students that State House had not abandoned the former CS and asked the residents to support her.
"The State House has not forsaken Ms Waiguru and that is why she is always assigned an official from the seat of power to accompany her wherever she goes."
Mr Ngatia, an official in the Political Affairs Division, asked the residents to embrace Ms Waiguru as their daughter.
"She always tells me that she would like to be called her excellency when I ask her what she wants become," he said.
In response, Ms Waiguru - who was the guest of honour - refrained from commenting about the issue arguing that the event was about academics.
However, she promised to make her political stand known in another meeting to be held later in the area.
Also, Gichugu MP Njogu Barua said she was entitled to vie for any political seat because the county is her birth place.
"I know Waiguru is a hard working person and she can be a very good governor," said Mr Barua.
Ms Waiguru said despite the many tribulations she underwent when she was the CS, her Ministry achieved a lot.
"In the three years I was a Cabinet Secretary in the government, my Ministry won over 10 awards for delivering quality services," she said.
Ms Waiguru opted to resign after being rocked by a scandal involving the siphoning of Sh791 million from the National Youth Service, a department that was in her Ministry.
She advised the students to study hard if they want to be successful.
