What you need to know:

  • Cord has called for the disbandment of IEBC, accusing it of being manipulated by the ruling Jubilee coalition after their Okoa Kenya signatures were rejected.
  • Mr Duale accused Cord of doublespeak.
  • He said it did not make sense that they were quick to call for the disbandment of the polls body just because IEBC refused to give the Okoa Kenya exercise a clean bill of health.

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has told opposition leaders to stop blaming the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for their problems and instead change their flag-bearer.

Speaking in Garissa, Mr Duale said if Cord wants the IEBC disbanded, the coalition should follow the procedures laid down in the Constitution.

He said Cord leader Raila Odinga is known to complain “when things do not go his way,” adding that the coalition collected “fake signatures” and that they should blame themselves instead of blaming the IEBC.

Cord has called for the IEBC to be disbanded, accusing it of being manipulated by the ruling Jubilee coalition after their Okoa Kenya signatures were rejected.

CHANGE CAPTAIN

“In a football match, if your team is not doing well what you should do is just change the captain instead of constantly blaming the referee. If you want to disband IEBC, come with credible evidence, don’t just make noise,” said the Garissa Township MP.

Mr Duale said when Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula was cleared by the IEBC over allegations that he bribed voters during a by-election in 2013, and in the recent Malindi by-elections, where Cord emerged the winner, the coalition had no problem with the electoral commission but demands its disbandment when things do not favour them.

Mr Duale accused Cord of doublespeak.

He said it did not make sense that they were quick to call for disbanding the IEBC just because the polls body refused to give the Okoa Kenya exercise a clean bill of health for mistakes he called of their own making.

“They should stop taking Kenyans for a ride with their hypocrisy. IEBC was good when it ruled in favour of Cord recently when it declined to strike off Senator Wetang’ula’s name from the poll register,” he added.
