A student's life is hanging on a thread after he was stabbed twice by a fellow student under unclear circumstances.
It is alleged that Harun Sabriye, 22, a form three student at Arabia Boys Secondary School, was stabbed at 1am as he slept in the school dormitory by a boy who escaped after the incident.
Mr Hussein Maalim, a relative, told the Nation at Mandera Referral Hospital that the attacker made away with his phone.
“When Sabriye’s mother called his son, the attacker disguising as the victim told her that he had sustained a cut on his hand that needed treatment,” said Mr Maalim.
The hospital's superintendent Kala Hassan Adan said the victim was stabbed in the abdomen.
“We received the patient at around 6am and diagnosed him with penetrating abdominal injuries. He is still in critical condition under close observation,” he said.
Mr Maalim said the boy had recorded a statement with the police.
The incident comes barely two weeks after a teacher was attacked by students at Hareri Mixed Secondary School. Police are yet to apprehend the attackers.
