Teachers in Tharaka-Nithi County have protested the transfer of Chuka Boys High School Principal Gitonga Kathuni to Nkubu High School.

Addressing journalists in Chuka Town on Tuesday, Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) branch secretary Njeru Mutani and his Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) counterpart Patrick Gitonga urged their employer to stop the transfer.

The unions have threatened to sue the Teachers Service Commission if the changes are effected.

“We will not allow any change in Chuka Boys High School because it would affect learning in the school and especially Form Four candidates who are preparing to sit for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations,” said Mr Gitonga.

He protested the transfer, saying Nkubu High School students had gone on strike a number of times.

“Nkubu (High School) has gone on strike more than five times in the last eight months and we cannot accept such problems to be transferred to our school,” said Mr Mutani.

Mr Mutani said his union would also mobilise parents to protest the transfer.
