Nurses in Tharaka Nithi have threatened to go on strike Friday.

The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Tharaka Nithi branch has accused the county government of breaching an agreement signed in June.

In a seven-day notice to the County Secretary, the nurses want the agreement implemented before Friday.

Speaking to the Nation in Chuka town on Wednesday, the union Tharaka Nithi Branch Secretary Kenneth Micheni said there has been no communication from the county on the issues they have raised.

He said the nurses will down their tools until the county addresses their grievances despite getting their July pay.

Mr Micheni said their complaints include late remittance of deductions to various Saccos, unions, NHIF, delayed promotions and failure to pay them house allowance as directed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

“Unless these issues are addressed satisfactorily within seven days from the date of the letter we will have no other alternative but to take industrial action,” the letter from the union to the county read.
