Tullow to meet Elgeyo, Baringo elders over oil exploration drill

Tullow Kenya plans to meet with the Elgeyo and Baringo community elders before launching an oil exploration drill.

A statement sent to newsrooms said an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (Esia) will be conducted after seismic studies conducted in the region in February this year showed probable signs of availability of oil reserves in the region identified as Block 12A.

An independent Kenya-based environmental management firm, ESF Consultants, had been contracted to carry out the study and meetings with leaders are scheduled for September 15 to October 3, the statement adds.

“The meetings will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to interact directly with Tullow representatives, as well as the technical team conducting the study,” it said.

VIBRANT OIL INDUSTRY

Tullow Kenya trials in Turkana proved the presence of up to 10 billion barrels of oil that are commercially viable.

More trials are ongoing in various areas, with some international companies contracted to carry out the exploration drilling in Turkana, Lamu, Migori, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Baringo counties.
