Twilight girls invade Kirinyaga county following Sh 3bn tea bonus

Twilight girls have invaded Kirinyaga County following the release of Sh3.3billion tea bonus to the farmers.

They are targeting farmers who are withdrawing money from banks to engage in merrymaking activities in towns.

The prostitutes are conspicuously present in Kagumo,  Kerugoya, Sagana, Kimunye and Kiangai towns which are located in tea growing areas of the County.

They have come from as far as Mombasa, Nairobi, Thika and other places in the hope of sharing in the tea bounty.

On Thursday police arrested two smartly dressed ladies who had drugged a farmer in a popular bar in Kerugoya town and robbed him of all the cash he had.

He was enjoying drinks in the morning after withdrawing the bonus when the women joined him.

The women engaged the farmer in sweet talk and he offered to buy them beer and roast meat.

According to the waiters, the strangers and the farmer jovially joked as they ate their meals.

Suddenly, the man fell into a deep sleep after which the women allegedly emptied his pockets and started walking out of the bar.

But the waiters who saw the man lying on the floor became suspicious that he had been drugged and stopped the women and called in the police who seized the suspects and locked them at the local police station for questioning.

The victim was rushed to Kerugoya district hospital where he was admitted and later discharged after he regained consciousness.

A detective investigating the matter said the suspects were being interrogated and would  be charged in court soon.

Kirinyaga Central Member of Parliament, Mr Gachoki Gitari said the County was leading in bonus payments nationally and farmers should be careful when spending their dues.

"Prostitutes are already here and want to fleece the farmers using cunning ways. Farmers should use bankers' cheques to pay school fees for their children to avoid losing the money to prostitutes. They should also withdraw little money for shopping and go home early enough," he said.

A farmer, Mr Eliud Gituto said he was aware of the prostitutes' invasion adding that he would not dare withdraw much money or enter into a bar at night.

"I toiled to get my bonus and I would not like to lose it to tricksters or any other criminals," he said.
