Governor Mutua says two linked to watchmen killing arrested

Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the Wednesday night killings of five guards in Mitaboni town, Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua has revealed.

On Friday, Governor Mutua said detectives were pursuing four more suspects and hinted at a possible political connection in the gruesome killings.

The county boss was speaking after he held a meeting with security officers in his office.

"My government will do all it takes to bring the culprits to book, "said Dr Mutua.

He said there was information that some aspiring politicians could be linked to the killings.

He urged residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious characters to police.

Governor Mutua also sent his condolences to the families of the victims.

County Commissioner Matilda Sakwa confirmed the arrest of the suspects, who she said were assisting police with investigations.

She cautioned politicians against interfering in security matters.

Her comments followed a visit to Mitaboni by politicians on Thursday, including Senator Johnson Muthama, Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala, Kathiani MP Robert Mbui and Mavoko MP Patrick Makau.

Senator Muthama gave Internal Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery seven days to transfer all police officers serving in Kathiani Sub-County following the Mitaboni attack.
