“We have increased our surveillance at the border to ensure that we properly screen the people entering our country,” said Mr Jingo.

He stated that patrols had been intensified in areas where people sneak into Uganda when they do not have proper documentation.

Mr. Jingo also added that they were properly screening public vehicles and cargo trucks for aliens being smuggled across the border.

He said there were stringent measures at the immigration offices and that every document was properly checked.

He said that they were working closely with their counterparts from Kenya to ensure that cross border crime is dealt with.

Mr Jingo added that they had started complying with the new East African Community rules that require residents of member states to move within the region with only their national identification cards.
