The President was speaking at a public rally in Voi Town on Tuesday, after inspecting the progress of the Standard Gauge Railway project at the Tsavo River Super Bridge at Man Eaters.

A LIST OF ISSUES

Governor John Mruttu and other local leaders presented to the President a list of issues, they said, had dogged the region for more than 50 years, and sought his intervention.

They include water shortages, lack of title deeds, human-wildlife conflict,  mining, poor infrastructure and the completion of the Mwatate-Wundanyi road and the Voi-Taveta highway.

Other leaders who spoke at the rally included Senator Dan Mwazo and MPs Joyce Lay (County), Thomas Mwadeghu (Wundanyi), Jones Mlolwa (Voi), Naomi Shaban (Taveta) and Andrew Mwadime (Mwatate).

The President said the contractor, who had abandoned work on the Mwatate-Wundanyi road would be dropped and a new one picked to continue with it from July 1, to complete it on schedule.

On water, he said the government and county officials were talking to donors to fund the Mzima 2 pipeline to provide water to the county.

The leaders said the poll campaign pledges the Jubilee government made to the region would be fulfilled.
