Varsity extends water supply to hospital to address shortage

Water shortage at Chuka County Referral Hospital is set to end after Chuka University offered to share its supply with the health facility as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Speaking while inspecting the project, the university’s vice chancellor Erastus Njoka said the institution will continue to support the community academically and in other activities.

He said the university has sourced the water from Ruguti River in Mt Kenya forest which is more than 22 kilometers from the university at a cost of over Sh42 million.

“We have decided to share the water with our hospital here because the university is part of the community and we would like it to offer the best services as the university does,” said Prof Njoka.

The hospital development committee chairman Albert Thirika said sometimes the facility experiences water shortage that runs up to a week causing inconveniences.

He noted that the hospital pays water bill ranging between Sh130, 000 to Sh150, 000 per month despite the poor supply.

The university don asked the County government to use the money it has been spending on water bills on other important health matters to help improve services.
