What you need to know:

  • On Saturday, the House Majority Leader, who is also the vice-chairman of County Assembly Service Board, Mr Andrew Ahuga, said the board had instructed Mr Musambayi to pay the new staff.

Staff recruited by the Vihiga County Assembly four months ago have been locked out of their offices following a dispute.

The employees allegedly had been paid their four months salary arrears over the weekend and sent packing without official communication.

Efforts to meet the House clerk, Mr Josephat Musambayi, were futile after a guard denied reporters access to Assembly buildings Monday.

On Saturday, the House Majority Leader, who is also the vice-chairman of County Assembly Service Board, Mr Andrew Ahuga, said the board had instructed Mr Musambayi to pay the new staff.

The board further noted it would institute disciplinary measures against Mr Musambayi, who, however, accused Speaker Dan Chitwa of overseeing “unprocedural” employment by the Assembly Board that he chairs.

He claimed that Mr Chitwa overlooked two letters from the Transitional Authority freezing employment by the House.
