Police have arrested a woman after a British national was killed in Bamburi.

The woman, a Kenyan, is helping the police in Mombasa with investigations into the mysterious death of the tourist, said to be in his 70s.

The victim, said to be a regular visitor in the coastal town, was found dead in the toilet of his rented one-bedroom apartment.

Witnesses said his mouth was sealed with tape.

A caretaker raised the alarm after discovering the body.

KILLING ANGERED RESIDENTS

Speaking to the Daily Nation on phone, Kisauni police boss Julius Wanjohi said they were pursuing leads that could unravel the truth.

“A suspect has been arrested and is said to be his girlfriend and she is helping us with investigations,” Mr Wanjohi said.

The killing angered residents of the Nyali neighbourhood, who complained that security had deteriorated in the area.

“He (the tourist) was killed in a very dehumanising manner and I hope the murderer is apprehended,” a 45-year-old man, who requested not to be named for security reasons, said.
