Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria has banned all alcohol advertisements in the county.

He was speaking in Murang’a Town on Saturday evening after visiting the county rehabilitation centre.

Mr Wa Iria said that it was immoral for manufacturers to take advantage of the war on alcohol to market their brands.

“It is immoral and wrong that when we are fighting alcohol, companies are busy promoting and marketing their brands in Murang’a bars by taking advantage of the war on alcoholism,” he said.

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege said she will sponsor a Bill in Parliament that proposes to ban all forms of advertisement.

The move, she added would reduce alcohol intake.
