Stop inciting youths, Bungoma Jubilee leaders tell Wetang’ula

Jubilee MPs from Bungoma County have asked Senator Moses Wetang'ula and other opposition leaders from the region to stop inciting youths to cause chaos.

Sirisia MP John Waluke accused Mr Wetang'ula of using youths “to fulfil his selfish interests”.

Mr Waluke said that destruction of property and lives will ruin the region’s economy if not handled well.

One man was killed on Friday when police confronted youths who barricaded the Bungoma-Mumias road to protest Thursday’s poll.

Addressing journalists at Countryside Hotel in Bungoma Town, Mr Waluke said Bungoma had been peaceful saying some leaders were inciting youths to join protest in other parts of the country.

"We can't allow a few leaders to fund youths to cause unrest in the county. Bungoma is a peaceful region and opposition leaders should not use youths to intimidate peace-loving Kenyans," the Jubilee MP said.

Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama said the youths had been given money so as to block roads in the Bungoma.

"You can't fund a few boys from the slums to prove a point. Fund them to engage in meaningful business ventures. Any chaos will be met with the full force of the law," said Mr Wanyama.

Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, said that Bungoma County is now a Jubilee zone saying the few Nasa supporters who are there should not disturb peace in the region.

On Friday, Mr Wetang'ula led hundreds of Nasa supporters in the town in condemning the brutal force used by the police to disperse the youths.

He said it was everyone’s constitutional right to picket.
