Man hacks, kills mother in Bungoma over Sh6,000 debt

A 22-year-old man in Kaptogoi Village in Mt Elgon, Bungoma County, has surrendered to police after killing his mother over a Sh6,000 debt.
Daniel Karam is reported to have asked his 61-year-old mother, Grace Mbiwa, to pay the Sh6,000 she owed him when a fight between them ensued.
“Daniel Karam had heard that [his] mother had sold coffee and he thought she had money. But his mother had not received the money [as] he thought.
"He had asked the mother to pay him or face consequences,” said Jacob Munyasia.

SCREAMS ALERT NEIGHBOURS
“He hacked his mother several times on the head and residents were alerted by her screams.
“Who would dare kill his own mother? It is so unfortunate this had to happen,” said Mr Munyasia.
Police arrived at the scene and rushed the woman, who was bleeding heavily, to Bungoma District Hospital for treatment. She died on arrival.
Later, the suspect surrendered to officers at the Chepsikaai Police Station.
His mother’s body was taken to the Bungoma District Hospital mortuary.
