Busia Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa has withdrawn his candidature as Governor Sospeter Ojaamong’s running mate in the August 8 elections.

Mr Wangalwa told journalists that his decision to step down was personal while denying claims that he was pressurised to do so.

“I will only be Busia’s deputy governor until August 8. I am equally withdrawing my candidature as Governor Ojaamong’s possible running mate,” said Mr Wangalwa.

“The governor is free to choose whomever he wants at his own time,” he went on.

He revealed that his actions may have been prompted by the fact that he has been side-lined in consultations to determine the governor’s running mate.

“The last time you (journalists) talked to the governor, he said he was still consulting (over the issue). He has never approached to me. How could he be consulting without reaching out to his deputy?” he posed.

He further revealed the he will be taking a break from active politics.

Mr Wangalwa's latest move is a confirmation that Governor Ojaamong will have a new running mate.
