A 15-year-old girl whose sponsor stopped paying her school fees claiming she had been secretly circumcised has resumed classes.

State House Girls High School Principal Joan Rampei Mooti said the Form Two girl would continue with her studies as they look for other sources for fees.

“The girl arrived in school escorted by a guardian and she will go on with her dream of completing secondary school.

“We are furious because the child has been through much trauma but we have done everything to bring her life back to normal,” she told Nation.co.ke in an interview.

Girls’ Centre in Suswa, Narok County was paying her school fees but decided to stop claiming she had been secretly circumcised, a practice they abhor.

However, the Narok District Hospital through the Children’s Department established that the girl has not been circumcised.

WELL-WISHERS

On Thursday, Ms Mooti urged well-wishers to contribute to her school fees through M-pesa number 88915.

Parents at the school, among them the Narok county commissioner Kassim Farah, have offered to pay fees for the girl.

The student alleges that the center, which helps poor pastoralist girls in Narok and Kajiado counties, strips girls naked as two nurses check if the 148 girls if are circumcised.

“The two nurses then write down the names of those they think have been circumcised,” she said.

Amid sobs, the girl told of how 68 of them were sent home after the ordeal.

As of Thursday evening, officials at the centre could not be reached and their premises remained closed.
